Teachers
This year’s Anti-Bullying Week focuses on bullying in the community – a growing problem, particularly with the rise of ‘cyber-bullying’. Pupils who experience bullying out of school, either via mobile phones and email, on the journey to and from school or in their spare time, should feel there is help available to them.
This site gives children the opportunity to demonstrate their support for anti-bullying initiatives; to stand up and be counted and to show a united front against bullying wherever it happens. Students should be encouraged to discuss the causes and consequences of bullying, and to feel they can share any problems they may be having.
How you can help
- Take any instances of bullying seriously – make it clear in the classroom that such behaviour is unacceptable.
- Be open and approachable – let kids know they can talk to you in confidence.
- Encouraging shy children will help them develop self-confidence and resilience.
- Ensure children are aware of the consequences of making personal information available.
- Liaise with parents to try to get to the root of bullying behaviour and to provide cohesive support for victims.
